PKK Terrorists Detonate Bomb Trap in Southeast Turkey, Leaving 2 Soldiers Killed

  • Posted by

Two Turkish soldiers were killed Saturday after PKK terrorists detonated a bomb trap during a military vehicle's passage in Turkey's southwestern Batman province.

The attack took place while a military convoy was underway for operations in rural areas of Kozluk and Sason districts.

The two soldiers succumbed to their wounds after being heavily injured in the attack.

Due to successful operations by Turkish security forces in the countryside and in urban areas, PKK terrorists have increasingly been resorting to bomb traps in recent months to inflict casualties.

However, these attacks are less successful compared to the past as the government stepped up efforts for road pavement in routes used by military convoys, which make it easier for bomb traps to be detected.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU, and resumed its armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, the terror organization has been responsible for the deaths of some 1,200 security personnel and civilians, including women and children, while more than 4,000 security personnel and over 2,000 civilians have been injured.
