Culture and Tourism Minister Ömer Çelik said that Turkey ranks second in the world in terms of blue flags awarded to beaches.

Culture and Tourism Minister Ömer Çelik said that Turkey that was 10 flags behind Greece in the number of blue flags awarded to beaches last year , ranks second in the world with an additional 41 blue flags this year.

“Turkey that has left behind many popular countries in terms of world tourism, has reached a very successful level. We surpassed Greece after Spain in the number of Blue Flags in 2015 and ranked second. Turkey that only had 6 beaches that were awarded Blue Flags in 1994, has increased this number by almost 73 fold in twenty years to 436.”

Çelik said that this development should be assessed as part of steps taken to make Turkey a “brand country.”
